Botox

An incredible 4 million people in the United States experience daily chronic migraine pain, with more than 15 migraines each month. While there’s still much to be learned about this neurological disorder (which also means there’s no cure), Botox has played a valuable role in diminishing the frequency of migraines in chronic sufferers — by as many as eight or nine headache days a month.

Botox treatment for migraines was approved by the FDA in 2010 and has since helped over half a million people find relief from chronic and debilitating migraines. As part of his suite of services, Dr. Chowdhury offers Botox treatments, helping you find much-needed relief from migraine pain.

How does Botox address spasticity?

Spasticity is a condition in which you develop an abnormal increase in the tone of your muscles, which can lead to debilitating stiffness. Spasticity affects nearly 1 million people in the United States, and it’s most often associated with:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Stroke
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Brain injury
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Infection

More often than not, spasticity tends to affect the upper and/or lower limbs, especially in patients who’ve had a stroke.

With Botox, which contains onabotulinumtoxinA, Dr. Chowdhury is able to decrease the stiffness in your muscles and improve their tone, which greatly helps with your mobility and use of your limbs.

Can Botox be used for cervical dystonia?

Yes. Cervical dystonia, which is also referred to as spasmodic torticollis, is an incredibly painful and uncomfortable condition in which the muscles in your neck spasm, causing your head to twist to the side or to the front or back.

Dr. Chowdhury addresses this condition with Botox injections, which work to quiet the spasming muscles in your neck.

Can Botox treat back pain?

Dr. Chowdhury turns to Botox to help with lumbar pain and spasticity. Any time a muscle is overactive or painful, which can happen frequently in your low back, or lumbar spine, the goal is to relax the muscle, which may also be pressing on nerve roots in the area.

If you’re a candidate for Botox, Dr. Chowdhury injects your low back to temporarily quiet your muscles, taking the pressure off your lumbar spine and nerve roots.
